National VFW Scholarships
We would like to share two great opportunities for your school-age children to participate in VFW programs designed to showcase their patriotism: the Patriots Pen and the Voice of Democracy. These programs align with the FDNY VFW scholarship initiatives dedicated to promoting patriotism and investing in our future generations. If you are a democracy-loving high school student interested in a $35,000 college scholarship or a patriotic middle school student aiming for a $5,000 prize, these scholarships may be for you.
The programs offer award prizes at various levels, culminating at the National level. Please review the program entry forms and share them with your kids to see if they would like to participate and express their voices.
Our VFW Post operates a bit differently than traditional VFW Posts, as we have buildings in local communities, and our community encompasses wherever FDNY members reside. Please check the attached flyers and registration forms for further details. The deadline for entry and submission is October 31, 2025. All youth are eligible to participate; they do not have to be children of veterans.
Our Post name is the SSgt Christian Engeldrum VFW Post 12033, New York, NY, and you can submit your entries to us as your sponsoring Post. Entries can be emailed to FDNYVFWComms@gmail.com. If mailing is preferred, please contact the same email address to request the mailing address for submissions.
We must receive your entry by October 31. Email submissions will be faster, and you’ll receive an electronic receipt. On November 1, we will begin reviewing all entries and selecting our winner, who will advance to the district level, then state, and finally to the national level.
